TEFL Taster Days

What are Taster Days?

Qualifying to teach English needs commitment - both in time and money. With no experience of English language teaching it is very difficult to decide whether you make that investment.

To try and help you make your decision, ITTC runs a number of TEFL TASTER days throughout the year to give you an insight into what will happen on a CELTA course and future career possibilities. You are under no obligation to go on to do a course afterwards.

What Happens on Taster Days?

We start the day getting to know each other and then one of our tutors will teach a short lesson in a language you don't know. This helps you appreciate how your learners feel when they are learning English.

We then reflect on the lesson and look at some of the basic principles of classroom management. Some people find thay had forgotten what it is like to be a student!

After a short break we introduce you to the fascinating world of the English language and look at how parts of it fit together. This lesson gives you an idea of the way grammar is tackled on a CELTA course.

To finish the morning, you will work in a small group and plan a few short lessons.

Over lunch you have a chance to meet and talk to some of our overseas students. They could be any nationality, but they all have one thing in common - they want to learn English.

For most people, the next session is the highlight of the day as you have a chance to put some of your planning into practice. You may teach by yourself or with a partner or group, or just watch if you don't want to have a go.

After teaching we all get back together for a coffee and the presentation of certificates of attendance and then start our job and advice shops. Tutors from ITTC will be on hand to try and answer any questions you might have.
